As the rain is falling down, I am reminded how much I dislike the rain but how I sometimes had to deal with it while I was on vacation. Even though this is my least favorite weather, I was certainly not going to go back to the hotel/apartment and not enjoy my visits because of some water on my head!
So here are my tips to enjoy some time out with the kids when it is raining on your vacation.
Tip 1
If you are not carrying an umbrella and it starts to rain, go get an umbrella, RIGHT NOW! Do not look for the cheapest or trendiest, the last thing you want is being soaking wet. That happened to us in London. Within 5 minutes, we ended up with overpriced Union Flag umbrellas that did not last long but we at least continued our visit! We looked like tourists but kids loved it!
Tip 2
Get the kids rain boots if they do not have proper shoes, especially if it is winter time. You may or not have space in your luggage to bring them back home but you want happy children. And wet children end up being unhappy children after a while…
Tip 3
Always carry extra socks in your bag so you can change your little ones socks (and yours) if they get wet. My children always make fun of me and my extra socks in the backpack but everybody is happy to find them when needed!
Tip 4
If it is raining a lot, it is MUSEUM TIME! A lot of people will have the same idea as you so try to head out to unusual places that your family or people may not have picked right away.
Tip 5
If it is only drizzling, enjoy a park! It will be empty and it is another way to discover them.
Tip 6
It is also the best moment to grab a snack or eat lunch. Find a seat close to the windows to look at people!
Tip 7
While planning the schedule of the city and if you know there is a possibility of rain during your stay, visit as many outdoors facilities as possible when the weather is nice in order to visit the indoors when the weather is not cooperating.
Tip 8
Last and not least. Be a trooper! If your children see that you are handling the rain with a smile, they will too.
